John Stuart was raised and went to school in Milwaukie Oregon, a suburb of Portland. After finishing school and getting married, he worked for a national cable television company for 8 years, completing employment there as the Portland Metro Operations Manager. He then moved with his family to Weiser in 1987, making a job change and coming to work in the family business, Midvale Telephone Exchange, now known as MTE Communications. He currently serves as President and CEO of MTE. MTE provides local phone, long distance, broadband and internet services in several rural areas of Idaho and Arizona, including Weiser.
In addition to volunteering as a member of the Weiser City Planning and Zoning, John has been an active part of the community, volunteering with various local, county and regional organizations. Some of these include local Weiser Chamber of Commerce, Weiser Education Foundation, Weiser Fiddle Contest, Washington County Planning & Zoning, Boy Scout Troop 350 and various emergency service committees. He currently serves as President of the Idaho Telecommunications Alliance, served as a board member of the Rocky Mountain Telephone Association and is part of the Western Telecom Assocaition, a national telecommunications association. John has been a member of the Weiser Rural Fire Department since 1988, serving as Assistant Chief for most of those years. He also serves as an EMT and firefighter for the Midvale Fire Department.
John has been married to his wife Carol for 38 years, they have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. His interests outside of work include camping, backpacking, fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his family.
