Welcome to our Fiddle Festival visitors. We are happy you have come to spend some time in our community. Enjoy the contest and the many activities surrounding the festival at Memorial Park. Thank you for sharing part of your summer with us.
I want to follow up some thank yous from last week. Last week I took time to thank the many volunteers that work with our youth in the sports areas to give them the opportunity to be exposed to various sports activities. This week I want to thank the many people who provide opportunities for our youth in the area of the arts. Denise Rasmussen and her team have provided a great opportunity for our kids in the Youth Symphony and Mike Turner provides an opportunity for kids to perform on stage through his camps. We also have several businesses in town that provide the opportunity for our youth to grow in music and dance. Victoria Thomas has a camp and classes throughout the summer and Dance Extreme 2.0 has programs for all ages. These businesses also provide entertainment for many events throughout the community and volunteer many hours to our kids. Marbella is another venue for kids to create as well as the many programs through the Extension service and 4-H programs. Our kids are blessed with the many opportunities to become well-rounded throughout the year. Thank you to all.
4th of July will follow our busy week of Fiddle Festival and Contest very shortly. Please remember fireworks can be very concerning to our veterans, senior citizens and pets. Have respect for all these residents.
Just a reminder that the State of Idaho and the City of Weiser are “Safe and Sane” fireworks sites. Other types of fireworks are not permitted to be sold in the City limits or fired off except by trained personnel. If illegal fireworks are found they will be confiscated and destroyed. If illegal fireworks cause any damage to person or property, the owner and business that sold the fireworks will be prosecuted. Please remember this and keep our community safe.
There will again be a Veterans’ March and nighttime fireworks display on the 4th of July in Weiser. Veterans’ and others who wish to walk or ride bikes in the parade are asked to gather at the Depot at 10:30 am. The parade will leave the Depot at 11:00 am promptly and travel down State Street to Veterans’ Park where a short ceremony will take place. The community is encouraged to come out to recognize and support our veterans and current military personnel.
At this time, I ask all current and retired military personnel to appear on July 4, 2018 at the Weiser Depot to muster for the annual Fourth of July Veterans’ March. Troops are commanded to report at 10:30 a.m. in service dress, if possible, for preparation to march up State Street to Veterans’ Park for the flag ceremony.
Just a quick update: I have been out of town at meetings and family for a week so check today to see if we had any word from Ridley’s. Nothing to this time. Still waiting to see the walls on the old building go down too. Will try to keep you posted.
Enjoy the rest of Fiddle Week. Don’t forget the parade on Saturday and the many activities in Memorial Park this week.
