Mayor DIana Thomas

Temperatures are definitely rising. Remember if you are going to be out of doors during these hot days to stay hydrated. Some good hints from the internet Wikihelp website we for staying hydrated:
“To stay hydrated during the summer, drink at least 2 litres (70 imp fl oz) of water per day. For added taste, try coconut water, diluted fruit juice, or water with slices of fruit. Carry a reusable bottle, cooler, or water bladder so you always have water on-hand. Avoid energy drinks, fruit punch, and other sugary beverages as they can lead to dehydration, and make sure you drink water if you’re drinking alcohol. “
It is easy to forget to drink water when we getting busy working or having fun. Remind yourself to take a drink by setting a reminder on your phone or some other gadget or alarm. An hourly alarm can remind you to regularly drink a glass of water and help keep you hydrated throughout the day. Don’t wait until you ‘feel thirsty’.
Our City Council continues to work on the budget through the next couple of months. One of the big line items we are putting in the budget this year is the refinishing of the swimming pool. The pool was a great community-wide project when it was completed and now is in the stages of needing some major renovation. The resurfacing will take place after the season and before the next season begins. The estimated cost is between $50,000 and $100,00 depending on what is found as they get into the renovation. We will also have to look at replacing heaters very soon. We have been able to refurbish much of these items but at some point, we have to bite the bullet and do major repairs and replacement and now is the time. The pool is a huge asset to our community even though is has a limited season. It provides exercise, entertainment and even some employment so we are happy to have it and be able to keep it open unfortunately, pools and events centers do not pay for themselves. Last year we were able to invest in the soccer field and this year it will be the pool.
This Saturday, July 14 a memorial is planned by a local family for a loved one. Part of the memorial is a short fireworks display being shot off by a professional company at the Rolling Hills Golf Course. This display has been in the plans for a while. We have asked to notify the public so animals and veterans are forewarned.
This week is another Weiser Wednesday in downtown Weiser. Vendors will be set up along State Street between West Main and Idaho. Drop down and visit. Thursday will be the first Farmers’ Market of the season. There will again we vendors and goodies to buy. The market will be at the Depot. Check the local media for times for both events.
Have a great week and please stay cool and hydrated.
