The Mayor’s Corner 07/25/18

Ridley’s Update: Hard copy of plans were delivered last week. City department heads, city clerk, public works and building have reviewed plans and sent okay with reminders of areas that need engineering when they begin and easement and rights-of-ways that need to be included in final paperwork. Permits for the foundation and site work are ready to be issued when fees and paperwork are completed. Hope.
The City Street Department is completing work on the last four ADA corners for the State of Idaho over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for your patience in the area of the work. The Street crew will begin working on the storm drain on the corner of Pioneer and W. 9th. There has been an ongoing issue there and we are working to resolve it during the W. 9th project. Watch for flaggers in the area as the intersection will have to be partially closed. The crews are working as quickly as they can in the area to get the work done before time for the school buses to roll.
Work will also continue along W. 9th Street by the Water Department to the north and the Wastewater Department on the south end. Due to the need for safety, W 9th will be closed to traffic during the day, 7 am to 5 pm. The street is open to local traffic only during these hours. Thank you for your patience as we continue work in this area.
The City budget process is about complete. The Draft budget is complete and the City Council will consider and pass a tentative budget at the August 13 regular Council meeting. The public hearing will be on Monday August 27 at 7 pm to take comment from the public about the budget. After the hearing, the Council will consider comments and look to pass an ordinance adopting the completed budget. This budget will go into effect October 1, 2018 and cover until September 30, 2019.
The Recreation Department is busy taking registrations for the fall activities. The summer has ‘blown’ away, literally. The pool has been busy with aerobics, lessons, swim meets and open swim. The major renovation on the pool is expected to take place before the next season begins. With the arrival of school comes the loss of our life guards so the pool will be closing on August. 19th. It will be open on Saturday, August 18th for regular swim and closed that night for the season. Thank you for supporting our local pool.
Please remember there is a BURN BAN throughout the City of Weiser and Washington County. Grasses are dry and ready fuel for a fire. Use of off road vehicles and vehicles on roads adjacent to dry grassy areas can be unwitting fire hazards. Please be careful in your summer activities.
It looks like hot temperatures are going to continue over the next few weeks. Be careful if working or playing in the sun. Stay hydrated and use sun screen to protect yourselves and those around you. Take time to check on elderly family, friends and neighbors. Please keep those children and furry friends out of hot vehicles and well hydrated too.
