The Mayor’s Corner 09/12/2018

Mayor Diana Thomas

This is a week of remembering. I found an old t-shirt from 17 years ago. United We Stand it reads. Yep, STAND! I also have articles that state, We Won’t Forget, but unfortunately some have. September 11, 2001. Most of us can still remember where we were when we heard the news of the tragedies and attacks against our country. Many people lost their lives and families lost members to this horrendous event. Each year remembrances are held to remind us of the many heroic acts during such a sad time. We need to remember and appreciate what was given for our freedom. WE WON’T FORGET. Thank you to first responders for all their efforts. “Greater love has no man, than to lay down his life for his friends.”
I, for one, am not willing to let high priced athletes and entertainment people think for me. They have an opinion but I don’t have to accept their opinion as the majority or as the norm. Unfortunately, their money allows them more media time than deserved. WE WON’T FORGET!
This is a good time to say thanks to a long-time first responder, Nate Marvin, for his many years of service on the Weiser Area Rural Fire. Nate has been a firefighter and chief with the department for many years. His family has watched him walk out the door on a moment’s notice many times. Thank you, Nate and your family, for your many years of service to our community.
There were lots of Weiser High School Alums in town this past weekend. The annual All-Class Reunion was held throughout Weiser. It is always fun to talk to folks who have come back and appreciate our town and being raised here. It is amazing how many of our alumni who move back to raise families or to retire. We are glad to have you here.
Our Street Department has completed the ADA project for the year. They are doing the final inspections and reports for the State early in the week. They will then take on the stormwater project on W. 9th Street south of Pioneer Road over the next couple of weeks. 9th Street continues to be a project site for the Water Department north of Pioneer. New flags have been purchased for some of our busy corners to replace those that have faded or disappeared. If you have a flag appear at your house, please return it to one of our containers.
This is the last scheduled Farmers’ Market for the year outside of the market planned during the Halloween ‘Spooktacular’ scheduled. Thursday, September 13 vendors will be at the Depot with their wares. We’ve had some great produce, bread, jams and crafts from there each week. Stop in from 5 pm to 7:30 this week. There is good music and a chance to visit with neighbors.
Coming events in October include the Rose Advocates Dinner, Mud Drag races, Angel Wings Run/Walk, Rancher’s Rodeo and the Weiser Area Chamber of Commerce Halloween Spooktacular. The Halloween Carnival and Truck-or-Treat will be included in the Spooktacular on Wednesday, October31. Watch the local news media for more information on all these events going on in Weiser.
Enjoy our beautiful Weiser fall.
