Halloween celebrations are about upon us. Please remember as the events take place to watch for little trick-or-treaters dashing across streets and yards. Saturday, October 27th there will be a Trunk-or-Treat at Carlena’s Tattoo on State Street from 5:30-6:00 pm and the Star Theater will have the Haunted House going on Friday and Saturday. Drive carefully in these areas especially.
Halloween will bring the Chamber’s Spooktacular Event downtown. Merchants will begin the trick-or-treating in the afternoon and then the Trunk-or-Treat will be held on State Street between Main Street and Commercial leading to the 7:00 opening of the Halloween Party in the Vendome. At 6:30 a flash dance will be held in the downtown core before the party opens.
There will also be regular trick-or treating throughout the neighborhoods on Halloween night and at least one church is sponsoring activities. Parents make sure your kids are dressed warmly and they are able to be seen. Let’s have another safe Halloween.
Remember the Weiser Fire Department Open House is this Wednesday from 5-7:30 at the Station on West Court Street. There will be hot dogs, chili, and nachos. It is a great time to see the equipment and meet our mostly volunteer firefighters. If you are interested in joining, this is the time to get your questions answered. Don’t forget to use Fire Prevention Month as a reminder to check your fire extinguishers and alarms.
The Weiser Police Department along with Weiser Memorial Hospital will have a Drug Take Back again this Saturday from 10-2 at the hospital and at the station. If you have outdated or unneeded drugs in your cupboards, now is the time to clean them out and dispose of them properly. There is always a place at the department to dispose of them. Remember not to flush them into our water system but use these opportunities to eliminate them safely.
Alley cleanup is about complete. The City will finish this week on the west side and not be back out for clean up until next spring. They completed the eastside last week. Leaf pick up will begin later in November. Remember to put leaves along the curb and do not put them in bags. Adopt-a-truck is still available after hours and on weekends. Call the office for more information.
East 6th Street is very busy and congested. Please be patient as trucks haul in and out of the new Ridley’s site. DO NOT PASS TRUCKS ON THE RIGHT. Wait for the trucks to turn. They do require a larger turning radius but it only takes a few minutes. There will be some lane closures during the construction so watch for flaggers and be patient as there is no way to avoid the congestion when traveling to the Cottages and Bi-Mart. The end results will be worth the inconvenience.
Monday, October 29th at 6:00pm is the time set for the Candidates’ Forum in the Vendome. This is the time to listen to the candidates for State and County offices. Bring questions and get better educated about the people running for each office.
Winter is coming. If you know of a child or adult who needs coats, hats, gloves, boots or snow pants, encourage them to come to the 11th Annual Winter Clothes Giveaway at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, October 27 from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be a hot meal available too. If you would like to donate contact Jeff Schmuch at 208-741-2455. This is an outreach of our local Love, INC.
It is a busy fall in Weiser again.
