Spring sports are taking first place over the next few weeks. With the nicer weather this week, the parks will be busy. Even with the rain last weekend there was lots of activities going on. The tennis courts and ball fields are getting lots of use.
The City swimming pool should be finished with the resurfacing this week. The lanes are now tiled in and should show up very well for swimmers. The company will continue to monitor the surface as it is filled and prepared for the season opening. Currently plans are to open the pool around Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks to those organizations who provided Easter egg hunts for our kids to enjoy even with the extra moisture. The Ole’s Men’s Club had a good turnout on the 13th, Weiser Church of Nazarene had a good turnout on the 20th and even got it done before the rain hit hard. Cascadia had another hunt that day and were able to adjust with the rain. Numerous churches held egg hunts as well so our kids had a chance to enjoy this fun Easter tradition. Thank you to all who helped make memories for our community kids.
Weiser Memorial Hospital is again partnering with our local law enforcement for a drug take-back day this Saturday, April 27 from 10 am-2 pm.at the hospital. This is a good time to get rid of all those outdated and unused pills and medications.
The Street Department is continuing to work on the ADA ramps along West Main and West Idaho to complete work started last year. They are also able to get asphalt right now so are busy working on potholes around town and doing patch work on projects from late fall. We expect to have bids on the W. 9th Street Project in the next few weeks.
The Electric Department is continuing work in the alley between E. Park and E. Galloway, between E. 4th and E. 5th Streets as they replace poles. There was an outage on Tuesday, April 23rd scheduled from 9-3. Those houses affected had been notified. If you have questions when there is an outage, please contact the City office.
If you hear of the opening of the ‘Gem Restaurant’ and are wondering where that might be, stop in the Rolling Hills Golf Course. New managers, Jim and Sondra Eton are serving a new menu under the new name. The restaurant is currently open Wednesday through Saturday from 11-3. They plan to expand hours and days as summer rolls around. The patio is a great place to relax. Dinners will begin after June 1 so watch for more information.
With the warmer weather, Marbella’s has opened its garden venue as well. It’s a great place to meet friends and relax and there is always room for creative projects. You can also bring your own food to enjoy in the garden area. Isn’t spring great!
I had someone define an expert for me the other day as someone who has all the answers before getting all the facts. It sure makes you think.
