Congratulations again to our graduates of 2019. School is officially out for the summer vacation. Drive carefully and watch for pedestrians and bikers particularly around the parks, pool area and the pond. Summer school will be held at the Weiser Middle School so watch in the mornings for walkers in that area too.
The swimming pool will open on Monday, May 27, Memorial Day at 7:00 am. Water aerobics will begin along with swim team and open swim. Season passes are available. Call the pool or Recreation Department for more information. The pool looks good with its make over from this spring and we have eager life guards to get started with the season.
City offices will be closed on Memorial Day in memory and honor of those who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Many families take this time to also remember family and friends who have died. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, May 28th at 8 am.
Many people will be traveling over the Memorial Day weekend and it begins the ‘100 deadliest days of summer’ on our roads, especially for our teens. Distracted and impaired driving by drivers of all ages are two of the main causes of accidents. Please drive carefully and stay fully engaged in your driving.
The City will meet with representatives from the National Old Time Fiddle Contest to begin preparations for this year’s activities this week. We are just about a month out from our big week. This year will be extra busy with festivities at the Lazy Bear Ranch the weekend before and the addition of the Weiser River Music Festival at the end of the week. Something for every one including the kids on Kids’ Day in downtown Weiser on Tuesday, June 18th and the Senior Community Center is always hopping during the day. Contact the Fiddle Office if you are interested in volunteering this year. Many organizations are looking for helpers during the week.
With the end of the Weiser School District school year comes the end of WHS sports for the year. Congratulations to the Golf teams on their success at State Golf. The girls finished 2nd in State and the boys 6th. Sara Lundberg and Stella Beam received individual metals for 2nd and 10th place respectively.
Congratulations to the Track teams on their success led by Rhett Kunz, 1st place finish in the 800m, Abbey Shirts’ 2nd place finish in the 200m and 3rd in the 400m and Reagan Doty’s 3rd place finish in the pole vault.
The Boys’ Baseball team fought hard and came back in their tournament to win the Consolation game and take 4th in 3A State Tournament.
Our Girls’ tennis team took 2nd place in State behind 2nd and 3rd place finishes by Grace Soulen and Andrea Bouvia respectively in singles and the team of McClellen and Tolman with a 4th place in doubles. The Boys’ tennis took 6th place behind strong leadership of Bryce Bake and the team of Westover and Price. Congratulations to all the Weiser Wolverine Athletes. Before we know it, information will be out for physicals for next year’s sports season.
Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and enjoy the sunshine. Please Drive carefully if you are traveling.
