The Mayor’s Corner 06/18/2019

Mayor Diana Thomas

Welcome to all our visitors this week. It is always interesting to see the many license plates that show where our visitors are from. I hope you enjoy your time with us. The weatherman is predicting a great week for us. Keep your eye on that mid-week storm we often get. There will be lots of good music of about every genre.
Just a quick reminder that Weiser has two one-way streets, West Idaho and West Main. Make sure you’re are traveling the correct direction, West Idaho Street goes east, West Main Street goes west.
Congratulations to Miss Idaho, Grace Zimmerman. Grace recently competed in the Miss Idaho Contest and was named 1st runner up. Lo and behold, the young lady crowned Miss Idaho stepped down for education opportunities and our own Grace was crowned Miss Idaho. We are very proud of all our young ladies that competed in the pageant and especially happy for Grace and her family and friends as they support her as she competes this fall in the Miss America Pageant.
Along with Fiddle Week comes the opening of “Yard Sale Season”. Please remember City ordinance does not allow signs to be placed on City poles or structures. Obstructions to the sidewalks or line of sight at corners will be removed. We also do not allow any advertisement in Veterans’ Park or the area adjacent to the park including the sidewalk areas.
If you are planning to visit some of our yard sales, particularly those on main streets and in residential areas, remember to park on the correct side of the street. Pulling out going the wrong direction can be very hazardous. Drive carefully in the areas where the sales are and watch for pedestrians.
Work on the sidewalks along E. Galloway has started this week. The contractor has a tight time frame so he will work to keep disruption to a minimum during this week. Road closures will begin next week. Please drive carefully or detour around this area for the next two months. Thank you for your patience. When it is done in August, we will have a much safer route to school for our kids and a clear path to the E. 6th Street businesses.
For those with camping vehicles, there are now three RV dumps available this week. There is one located at the high school which is open this week only. The other two are open all summer. One is located on the corner of E. Park Street and Hwy 95 and is open 24/7. There is also one located on W. 9th Street at the Wastewater Treatment plant at 841 W. 9 and is open 7days a week from 8-5. Garbage and water are available at each site for clean out.
Don’t forget the Fiddle Parade on Saturday at noon. Check the Fiddle Week brochures for the route. Congratulations to the 2019 Grand Marshall, Lila Harper. Lila has been a life-long member of our community, giving back in so many ways through the years. Thank you, Lila, for loving our community.
Have a great week.
