The Mayor's Corner 10/23/19

Mayor Diana Thomas

City crews continue to work on fall clean up and winterizing plants and facilities. The Soccer complex has been closed and winterized so restrooms there and in most of the parks are now closed. The restrooms next to the football field and in the Lions’ shack will be open until after the season ends and playoffs are over.

The Wastewater crew is still doing some jetting of lines. They will be working this week on jetting the main line along State Street. The crew will come in around 11:30 pm and work from the corner of Park Street and State, south to Commercial Street. They will work late to avoid traffic and to be able to work with decreased volumes. There is no major concern or problem, this is just annual maintenance.

The Water Department has been busy with new services in some of our residential areas. There have been a number of new housing permits issued over the last several weeks and it is good to be able to respond to the placement of these new services without major disruptions to the neighbors.

We have had our back up garbage trucks go down over the last week. Thank you for your patience as we have had to catch up. It is still our intent to continue twice-a-week pick up through next week, November 1. Beginning on Monday, November 4, we will go back to once a week pick up though the winter months. If you have questions regarding your schedule, call the office at 208-414-1965.

The Electric Department has been busy working on new service lines to residences and commercial properties too. They also continue to look for branches that may be cause outages. If you see trees that appear to have hanging over the service lines, please let the office know and someone will come out to check on it.

Alley clean up continues this week on the west side of State Street. Please remember to cut limbs in short pieces so they can be picked up. The east side of town is completed. Adopt-a-trucks are available for a while longer. Please remember not to follow guidelines and not mix loads. If the crews have to sort the load to dump it, there will be a charge and the user may be denied the use of the truck in the future.

Halloween activities continue with the Onion Skin Players’ Spooktacular at the Star Theater which will be open this Friday and Saturday from 6-11 pm. Tickets are $5 and the money goes to support the Players and the work on the theater. They will also be open on October 30 and 31. The Chamber and Friends’ Halloween activities will be held on Thursday, October 31. There will be business trick or treating, trunk or treat, flash mob, a fall festival and the Annual Halloween Carnival. Come on downtown and join in the fun which begins at 4 pm.

Congratulations to the Girls’ and Boys Soccer teams for their District Championships. Good luck at State. Go Wolverines. Good luck to our Lady Wolvs Volleyball team this week at district and to the football team in their game against Homedale on Friday.
