Find Ways to Enjoy Life Despite COVID
I hope everyone has had a good week. Mine has been good in that the City is moving forward on several projects in the works.
On a personal note, Sunday, Cathy and I took a little bit of time Sunday to go for a drive. After flipping a coin on which direction to head, within a few minutes we had a picnic lunch packed, masks and hand sanitizer in hand, and headed out. We ended up at Wallowa Lake and took the tramway up Mt. Howard. After the tramway ride we took a short hike and we were at the top of the mountain. From there we were able to look in one direction to see the Seven Devils and Hells Canyon, then turn around and see the gorgeous Eagle Cap Wilderness area in the other direction. It was a wonderful time out enjoying the scenery and Mother Nature.
At this time of dealing with COVID-19 restrictions, it is important to take time out to creatively think of things to do that can refresh and rejuvenate, while still remaining safe. We have an advantage here in the west to have great outdoor spaces available where we can get out and enjoy and still respect others by keeping reasonable distances. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of creative opportunities available enjoy life, while still staying safe.
One local event to be taken advantage of is the Farmer’s Market each Thursday evening at the Train Station. Local growers, bakers, and crafters have their wares on display in a safe and managed environment for your shopping pleasure.
Speaking of COVID-19, in my own unscientific observation, it appears that more and more people are beginning to wear masks. Thank You! to those who are wearing them. To those who aren’t, please reconsider for the sake of the rest of us and for the sake of the economy.
There may not be any direct connection with my personal observation of mask wearing, but this week’s rise in the number of new cases as a percentage was almost half of the prior three week’s. The prior three week’s average had been 15.3%. This last week’s increase was 7.9%.
On another note, at various times there have been anonymous notes or telephone messages left at the City offering opinions or various complaints. The observations are considered valuable and are acted on when applicable. However, please leave a name and contact information when contacting the City. This will allow the City to possibly contact you for more information, if needed, or to let you know the outcome, or to even provide you with more information about the circumstances, if warranted. In other words, it allows for better communication.
In City business this week, the progress on the RV Dump Station continues. At the moment, the work is waiting on the State plumbing inspector to visit and sign off on the work so far. The City crew will then be able to fill in their work and complete the project. We should have a new RV Dump, VERY soon.
Saturday, Aug. 15 will be the last day for the swimming pool this season. You will want to take advantage of the pool soon, if you have any plans to do so.
Also, you can still sign up for fall soccer. The Recreation Dept. will not require payment until the season starts.
Well that is it for this week. Please stay safe out there. And thanks for wearing your mask!
