The Mayor’s Corner 10/28/2020

Mayor Randy Hibberd

Next Tuesday, November 3, is Election Day. If you requested an absentee ballot, be sure to mail it in as soon as possible. The ballots must be received by the County Clerk no later than November 3, Election Day. If you plan to vote in person, it is expected to be a high turnout, so plan on taking some time. Whatever you do, VOTE!

Statewide the number of new COVID-19 cases is skyrocketing. More than one hospital in the state is at capacity and having to send patients to other hospitals, both in-state and out-of-state. Governor Little has issued a proclamation to move the State back to Stage 3 in the COVID-19 response, with modifications.

The Stage 3 restrictions:
• Limit the size of indoor public gatherings to less than 50.
• Outdoor gatherings limited to 25% of capacity, while providing proper distancing.
• Masks required at long-term health facilities.
• Seating only in bars and restaurants.

Health authorities are urgently requesting people to follow protocols. Locally, our COVID cases have declined to just over 2.5 new cases per day. This is still in the “Orange” category, but improving. The efforts at wearing masks and other precautionary measures are paying off. Thank You! and keep up the good work.

Due to moving back to Stage 3 the Youth Basketball program will be postponed to January, when we can re-assess the situation.

For those of you who plan on participating in Trick-or-Treating this year, the District Health Office offers the following safety tips:

Parents:
? Provide proper distancing from others.
? Wear a cloth mask. If the child’s costume has a mask, it is best to also have a cloth mask underneath.
? Avoid touching or removing masks while out.
? Wash hands thoroughly when you return home.
? Wash hands before opening and eating treats.

Treat Givers:
• Monitor groups to ensure distancing.
• Find ways to hand out candy while staying 6 feet apart (individual treat packages lining sidewalk, curbside treats, sliding treats down a tube into sack, etc.).
• Wear a face mask.

In City business, the Street Department will be starting to pick up leaves this week. All you will need to do is rake leaves to the curb. Please make sure it is leaves only. The vacuum equipment is not designed to pick up solid matter.

The City will begin the annual fall alley clean up service in two weeks. This is for yard waste only (grass clippings, shrub trimmings, flowering plants, etc. — no leaves). We are starting a little later this year than normal as we anticipate more waste, since there was considerably more at home activity this year. All you need to do is place the waste on the edge of the alley out of the way of the garbage trucks and other vehicles. Both the leaf and waste pick-ups are provided by the City free-of-charge.

Also, the City will discontinue its twice a week garbage pickup next week. It will resume in the spring with warmer weather.

Well, that’s it for this week. Happy Halloween! Stay warm, stay safe, and have a good one!
