This past weekend, Cathy and I spent time with the family camping at Lost Lake. This was the first camping trip after we had all had our vaccinations. We had gone camping last year, but everyone was careful to maintain distances, sanitize, and remain hugless. It was great to be able to feel “normal” again. We were able to go canoeing, have grandkids on our laps, and huddle around the campfire without a thought to a stupid virus. We usually end our get-togethers with a group hug. This time, due to the number of days without a bath for any of us, we reverted back to a covid-time pattern and had a group air hug.
I want to thank everyone who has been preparing for the Fiddle Festival coming up next week. Last year of course, there was no Festival due to the pandemic. This year’s Festival has been modified since the covid-19 virus is still with us. Planning the modified version of the Festival has been no easy task for those involved. Anticipating the risks and devising solutions is time consuming and nerve-racking. And so, my hat is off to Sandy Cooper, Bruce and Cindy Campbell, and everyone else involved in putting on the 2021 version of the Fiddle Festival.
Weiser has businesses that count on the income this festival generates in order to make it through the hot slow summer months. However, the crowds may be less this year due to the lingering effects of covid. Therefore, please support our businesses during the Fiddle Festival and throughout the summer. These businesses support our kids and events throughout the year. We need to provide them support in return.
In City business this week, notices were given to those who have not yet had their sprinkler system’s backflow tested for the year. The Water Department will shut off the water supply if the backflow tests are not completed in a timely manner. The tests are made to guarantee that water that has entered into the sprinkler system cannot flow back into to water mains causing contamination to the drinking water supply. Please have yours tested ASAP if you have not already done so.
Also, the City normally picks up garbage twice a week during the summer months for nasal and other reasons. However, this year, the City has been unable to find qualified CDL drivers to fill this seasonal role. It appears that the labor shortage experienced by most businesses this year is also affecting the City.
So, please be understanding if there is more trash in your container than usual. If the container nearest your home is full, please take a moment and go to another one that may not be. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated. As always, if there are problems, please do not hesitate to contact City Hall with the issue. We will do our best to resolve it.
Well, that’s it for this week. Hope you have a great time during Fiddle Week!
