One of the things I appreciate about Cathy and our daughters is the fact that they regularly put their heads together to plan family events. One of the annual events that must be on the calendar just like Thanksgiving and Christmas is a camping trip.
Well, a few months ago, they scheduled last weekend as the time to camp for a few days. We ended up going to the Secesh River north of McCall near Warren. The timing was not the best with temperatures reaching triple digits. But we had fun despite this.
The first thing the boys did was to grab one of the boxes to use as a target for their bows and arrows. It was amazing to see their accuracy improve in just a short time. One of their other favorites was whittling. It was fun to watch their parents instruct the boys in how to hold the knives, sit with their elbows on the knees, and cut away from themselves.
And of course, there was playing in the river. The nice part of this portion of the Secesh is that the water is shallow and fairly slow. I was proud of the older grandson. He fell backwards in the water (about 20 inches deep.) When he came up one of his flip-flops came up with him and floated away. He took off after it. (This is where we were really appreciative of the swimming lessons he had from Aimee Wootton.) The way it was moving away from him, I was sure it would end up in the Pacific Ocean sometime in October. He chased his shoe for about 75 yards before it got caught in something. But he did not give up. All of us enjoyed seeing his persistence.
Now on to City business.
As you are probably aware, part of the $85,000 grant agreement between the City of Weiser and the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for the park project involves a community survey of what YOU want to see. As part of that process a QR code was attached to the survey’s online site for your convenience and is included below. For those of you who are unfamiliar with QR codes—like I was until recently, either ask a young person or use the camera on your smartphone to take a picture of the code which will take you to the website. For those who just prefer to go directly to the internet. The web address is https://tally.so/r/wvBZzv. Within the next few days, we will also have printed copies available at City Hall.
The survey will take about five minutes. Remember, this is your opportunity to say how YOU would like to see included in this park project. We would really like to see a response from every man, woman, teenager, and child in town. The best ideas come from seeing something from all viewpoints. So, YOUR opinion and viewpoint are important even if you do not think you have much of an opinion or think your idea will not matter. IT DOES!
So, PLEASE take five minutes to let us know what you think. It will be greatly appreciated!!!
Getting back to the heat, if you do not have air conditioning, the Library is a great place to hang out for a bit to get a brief break. They have water available, computers, and of course books to keep you entertained. So, if you just need to beat the heat for a bit, visit the library. They will be happy to see you. If we need to, we will also open up the Vendome.
Well, that’s it for this week. Keep in mind, Fall will come eventually. Heat is not forever. Have a great week!
