The Mayor’s Corner 02/21/2018

The City crews planned a cleanup day to begin clean up around the entries into Weiser. Yep, it was Wednesday, the day it snowed. They were still able to get some of the area around the overpass and bridges cleaned but will do more in the next couple of weeks.

Back to the cold for a few more days. However, there are definitely signs of spring. The robins are appearing and we had some birds scouting the housing market around our house this weekend.

Another good sign is the announcement that Rolling Hills Golf Course and Restaurant/Bar is officially open for the season. Lots of folks have been playing all year but now the Clubhouse is also open for business. Soon we should see Marbella” garden open and the other businesses planning for spring activities.

The City has received a couple of calls regarding communication they have received through the mail regarding insurance being advertised to cover the possible damage to the water service pipes from the hook-up to houses. There is concern it may be another scam. The service line to the house is and has always been the responsibility of the property owner. This is not new but some think it is a new policy that needs to be covered. It is not new. A company has just found a new niche to sell insurance to people.

We have a high population of seniors and companies target this population many times. I have not heard of anyone using or collecting on this insurance so have no experience with it. My recommendation is to be cautious. Contact your own insurance agent about this if you have a concern or have a family member look into it for you. Local agents you trust can be a great resource when you receive these mailings from outside companies.

The City has been contacted to share this insurance information with out customers. We do not advertise for companies or support programs that seek to sell services to our customers, nor do we give out customers names to these companies. Be careful when you receive any information that may indicate otherwise.

Tuesday, March 13 will be an Election Day for the Weiser School District 2018 Supplemental Levy election. The district is seeking an extension of the current levy which expires this year. The WSD levy rate is $1.44 per thousand dollars which is the lowest rate for schools of the same size in our area. The district will be getting more information out over the next few seeks so be sure to ask questions and become educated on the needs and uses for the levy. Mark your calendar to remember to vote on March 13 or get an absentee ballot or vote early.

Congratulations to the Weiser High School Wolverine Wrestlers. They have had another great season and took home the district trophy at the tournament this past weekend. Good Luck at State. Go Wolverines.
