The Greater Weiser Economic Development Task Force is holding a Job Fair in the Weiser Vendome Event Center on Thursday, April 12 from noon to 6 pm. Local businesses from the Western Treasure Valley will have a presence at the fair. Businesses from Weiser, Payette, Fruitland, Ontario and New Plymouth will have representatives to discuss possible careers with their businesses. Interested residents are encouraged to visit with the representatives and to bring resumes to leave with possible employers.
This week will be the second ‘First Thursday’ Event at Peoples’ Furniture. The event will run from 5-7 pm and will feature product demos, giveaways and refreshments. This is a great opportunity to get to know our businesses and meet your neighbors. Watch for this event each month on the first Thursday. The event is sponsored by the Weiser Area Chamber of Commerce and the participating businesses. The May ‘First Thursday’ is scheduled to take place at Rolling Hills Golf Course and Restaurant.
Speaking of the Chamber, this Saturday, April 7 is the Annual Crab Feed at the Vendome Event Center. I hope you have your tickets, they went quickly. Call the Chamber office if you are still hoping for tickets. This is the Chamber’s main fund raiser and there will be auctions of lots of great baskets and donated items.
Add May 4 to your calendar for the annual Community Pond cleanup. The Street/Parks department along with members of the Indianhead Fly Fishers will be down cleaning the debris around the pond to make it more fisher and user friendly. Come join them and enjoy a free hot dog at noon. They plan to begin at 9 and work through the morning and afternoon. The Idaho Fish and Game Fishing trailer and crew will be visiting the pond on Saturday, May 5. Come down and join the fishing fund. The trailer has fishing equipment to use on that day. At this time the schedule indicates they will be coming in the afternoon.
Weiser Memorial Hospital is partnering again with St. Luke’s Hospital and our local law enforcement for a Take Back day on Saturday, April 28 from 10 am -2 pm. This is an opportunity to safely dispose of outdated medications. Gather your old medications and drop them at the WPD/WCSO location to eliminate the possibility of them being stolen and misused. Local law enforcement has a drop box available at all times but this is a concerted effort to remind people to safely dispose of these items.
On Tuesday, April 10 the Senior Class of Weiser High School will be giving back to their community by working throughout Weiser with our Streets/Parks Department. Approximately 90 students will be working to enhance our parks and painting curbs around the downtown area. These projects are part of their Senior project requirements and we appreciate them making the City a priority for them. If you see them working, be sure to say thank you for giving back.
As I look at the many events taking place over the next few weeks, it is encouraging to see how many of the projects are joint projects. Members of our community of all ages join together to make our community a better place to live and to get to know each better. Step out and join in one of the projects or with one of our service groups to give back to our community. Spring is a great time to reach out to help neighbors and friends clean up our community.
