Tis the Season of kindness and Thanksgiving. Don’t forget the Community Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day at the Weiser Community/Senior Center. The doors will open at 12:00 pm and dinner will be served until 3 pm. The doors will not open until noon because volunteers are busy putting together take out meals to be deliver by 12:00. Volunteers are also busy preparing the homecooked dinner. The meal is free to anyone who would like to come down and enjoy food and fellowship. If you would like a take out meal call the Flower Basket at 208-414-2151. Don’t spend the day alone, joy the fun at the Center.
The Street crew has finished fall alley clean up. They will come back in the spring to get garden cleanup. They are still working on the leaves and will continue as long as weather permits.
The weather man is predicting snow this week so please make sure to remove trailers and vehicles off streets. If you can park your vehicles off-street, it will help as crews sand and plow snow when needed. Please remember there is a priority list for streets to be plowed. The plan is on the City website.
Temperatures are expected to drop considerably too. Remember to leave a small stream of water running if you have any exposed pipes to keep them from freezing if the temperatures remain below freezing. Also be aware that the cold temperatures will have an impact on your gas or power bill depending on your source. Stay warm and maintain a consistent room temperature to avoid large spikes. Again, space heaters can use lots of kilowatts so be careful and cautious in their use.
Crews will continue putting up the lights and banners for Christmas this week so the town is decorated for our residents and Thanksgiving visitors to enjoy through the holiday season. The Christmas activities will be in full swing as the Weiser Memorial Hospital kicks of the season with the annual Festival of Trees next week. Decorators will begin on Monday and continue till the Gala on Wednesday, December 4. Tickets are available on line or contact the Foundation members. The Holiday Parade is scheduled for Friday, December 6 at 6 pm. There is also a Sip & Paint on Thursday night at the Vendome sponsored by the Foundation and local art studio, ArtBon. Check local media for times and prices.
Check out the Signal American’s “I Buy Weiser” campaign and join in to win money back for shopping in town. Remember, you have a big impact on our local businesses when you shop local. Spending $50 a month in our local businesses comes back around to help our businesses continue to provide products and services here. If you’re a Black Friday shopper, stop and shop locally first.
Thursday’s trash pick up will happen on Wednesday of this week and Friday pick up will be the same. If you got missed on Wednesday due to the holiday, we will be back on the regular schedule next week. The City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday of this week and back open on Monday at 8 am.
Have a very blessed Thanksgiving and if you’re traveling, please drive carefully.
