Merry Christmas! Here we are at another celebration and another opportunity to enjoy food and fellowship. The C.O.P.s (Citizens On Patrol) are hosting their annual free Christmas Dinner at the Weiser Senior/Community Dinner on Christmas Day. Dinner will be served from 12:00-2:30 pm. For home delivery call 208-549-2154. Don’t stay home alone, come down and join your neighbors.
It was interesting talking to our son in Tokyo about their Christmas plans. He was interested that even though Japan is not identified as a Christian country, they do celebrate the holiday. Their celebration is not related to the birth of Christ as is ours but they enjoy Christmas music, lights, decorations and presents, of course. Most businesses are open on Christmas and many workers go to work like any other day. Americans working there take the time off and enjoy the holiday as usual as do many workers from other countries living in Japan. My granddaughter is out of her school since it is an American school but most Japanese schools are still in session. Learning about the culture in other countries is always very interesting.
A reminder from the Weiser Police Department: when picking children up at school, remember to make sure they are belted in the proper seating. Officers have observed children being allowed to climb around in cars while parents are driving away. Officers will issue citations in the future. Please keep our children safe.
Thank you to Santa and all his helpers for another successful Ho Ho Express. Children of all ages from the Annex and Weiser schools have the opportunity to buy presents for themselves and family members. Volunteers help wrap the presents for them to take home and place under a tree or in a secret place until Christmas. Thank you to Steve’s Hometown Motors and the many others who provide the donations for this annual project.
Thank you to those who also give through giving trees at MTE, Rose Advocates, WICAP, Love INC, Toys for Tots and the many churches and organizations providing food and gifts. Christmas is a time for giving in Weiser.
Cities offices will close at noon on December 24th and be closed for Christmas Day. We will open again on December 26th and December 27th. The office will be closed again for New Year’s Day, January 1. Payments can be placed in the drop box across from City Hall at any time or payments may be made on line at the City website.
Our Ordinance Officer, Chuck Green continues to work with residents to get trailers and unlicensed vehicles off the streets to make snow clean up easier and more effective. Also please remember not to plow across the street when cleaning out driveways. This makes small berms which freeze and cause driving problems.
Don’t forget the C.O.P.s Christmas dinner on Christmas Day at the Weiser Senior/Community Center. Another great volunteer organization providing Christmas cheer to our community. Remember these volunteer organizations are always looking for others to join them.
Merry Christmas to all. May your day be blessed.
