The Mayor’s Corner 04/12/2023

Mayor Randy Hibberd

Boy! Did Cathy and I have a busy weekend with the grandsons! It started off Friday with Cathy and I watching the boys while their Mom and Dad had an evening out. On Saturday, it was the youngest one’s first soccer practice and he wanted Grandma and Grandpa to come watch. Watching five and six year olds try to make sense of practice drills is a pretty special form of entertainment and one that I’m glad we were able to watch and encourage.
Lastly, the whole family came over for Easter by first joining us for church. Afterwards, everyone came to our place for lunch and an adult Monopoly game where the 5-year-old beat us all. (He may have gotten a little coaching from Grandpa.) The afternoon ended with going to the Soccer Complex to shoot off a rocket multiple times. The rocket kit says it is for people age 10+. I figure that between the two of us we probably equal a 10-year-old.
I’m back in the office today to rest up.
Speaking of rockets, in case you haven’t heard, the Library is going to be having a VERY SPECIAL GUEST later this month! BARBARA MORGAN will be at the Library on Saturday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. In case you don’t know or can’t remember, Barbara Morgan was an elementary school teacher in McCall. Although this is a pretty special career in itself, Ms. Morgan also had a side gig that was a little unusual for an elementary teacher, or any teacher for that matter.
BARBARA MORGAN was the first teacher to go into space as an ASTRONAUT! I won’t say any more than that because Ms. Morgan can tell you way more than I ever could.
So, come on out to your Library on the 28th! You might want to arrive early because I have a feeling that a LOT of people will be showing up for this chance to listen to an Idaho Astronaut! Hope see you there!
Also, next week, on Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th, you may notice a lot of activity downtown. The Idaho Women’s Business Center will be holding their Idaho Rural Success Summit at the Vendome! This is an annual event that is held in different parts of the State each year. The organizers are especially pleased this time because they are able to host the Rural Success Summit in a rural setting. It is not every rural town that has the facilities to host this type of event. It is anticipated that there will be 300+ people here for this 2-day event.
So, we want to say THANK YOU to the Rural Success Summit for choosing Weiser and THANK YOU! to those responsible for seeing that Weiser has the Vendome in the first place.
In City news this week, the office has been getting several inquiries into whether the City is still planning on cleaning up the alleys from last year’s yard waste. The answer is Yes! The weather is beginning to co-operate with us. To get into the alleys with the equipment needed to pick up the waste, the alleys must be relatively dry. Otherwise, the equipment tears the mud surface to shreds making it difficult to then go in and blade out winter pot holes. Hopefully, the weather will continue to co-operate until this project can be completed.
Also, Wayne Wallace of the Electrical Department tells me that they will be staying pretty busy this week getting power to one of the subdivisions West 9th and to new development on East 6th. So, please be aware that there may be utility work being done at these two sites.

Well, that’s it for this week! Hope you have a good one. I also hope the dry weather holds.
