The Mayor’s Corner 04/26/2023

Mayor Randy Hibberd

This last Saturday, Cathy and I had the opportunity to participate in an occasion that doesn’t happen very often. A church in the community where Cathy and I graduated from high school was having their 125th anniversary. (I know some of you might ask if we were charter members, but the answer is a hard no.) However, it is the church that Cathy attended growing up. One of the things I enjoyed that evening was watching Cathy with one of her childhood friends go through the building and relive their memories. It was like seeing through her eyes as a child as she relived some of the best memories of her childhood. It was great!
The most important part of the evening was catching up with people we each have known for most of our lives. There was dinner served and a program focused not only on the past, but on the future as well. I sat with Cathy on one side and a man I had played trumpet with in our high school band on the other side.
I have only lived in Weiser for a mere 29 years. Cathy has lived here for 14 years. So, we are relative newcomers to many of you. However, the relationships we have here are very similar to those of the people we have known most of our lives. Weiser is a very welcoming community where the motto “We Love our Kids, Community, Country” is true. Thank you, Weiser for being who you are!
There is someone else on the City’s team who would also like to say Thank You! but on a different subject.
Ken Anderson gave me a letter Monday morning and asked if I could put it into my own words for this article. Rather than botching it up by me converting the letter, I thought Ken’s words were better than anything I could come up with. So, here goes:
Wolverine Community,
I am writing this letter to thank the Weiser Community for once again stepping up and supporting our local youth. I have been the Recreation Department Director for over 16 years now and it continually amazes me to see the support and love in our community.
This year in Youth Baseball/Softball, we have a total of 21 teams participating. These teams range from T-ball all the way up to Majors baseball and U-12 softball. I am proud to announce that we have sponsors for every one of these teams. These sponsorships allow the Recreation Department to purchase team uniforms and hats for the youth teams.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the individuals and businesses who graciously donated to make this possible. It is exciting to see our kids learning new sports, developing friendships, and learning good sportsmanship.
I would also like to thank all the parents and grandparents who volunteer their time to help coach these sports. Without the volunteers, we don’t have our youth programs. Please take notice of the sponsorships on the uniforms and make a point to thank them and patronize their businesses. Also, please take a moment to thank the coaches. They take time out of their busy schedules to help the kids!
Thank you to you all!
GO WOLVERINES!!
Ken Anderson
Weiser Recreation Director
I couldn’t agree more!
Well, that’s it for this week. Weiser really is a great place to live, work, and play!
